Non-essential shops will be allowed to reopen next week – but what extra precautions will people be taking?

Many stores will be limiting the number of customers allowed inside, while strict social distancing rules will remain in place.

Some shoppers may also choose to wear a face covering, which will become mandatory when travelling on public transport from Monday, June 15 – the same day that many retailers will reopen for the first time.

Jim Tansey: “Have been going in essential shops for the duration with no mask and have been fine. So why suddenly wear one if you are going to a non-essential shop? Just go when it's quiet, avoid people and wash your hands when you get back.”

Sheila Treg: “Yes we have come this far. Definitely in enclosed spaces, because some people don’t know how to social distance.”

Dave Coates: “No, I will not go into outlets requiring a face mask. I was isolated for 10 weeks because I suffer from emphysema and therefore on medical advice will not be using a face mask.”

Maureen McLuckie: “Yes I will, it is a good mask and gloves that were given to me by one of my nieces, I have been wearing it when I go to the local shops, it is also washable.”
